In 2012, Sci High adopeted the co-principal model of school leadership, with each principal taking the lead on different areas of administration.
Claire Jecklin, Co-Principal for Academics
Ms. Jecklin focuses on student academic performance and test scores - including supporting endeavors such as professional development for faculty. She joined Sci High in 2007, coming to New Orleans as part of the Teach NOLA master teacher corps, and started as the English III teacher and Junior Team Lead. Since then, she has served as the Literacy Coordinator, English Department Chair, Student Assistance Team Chair and Instructional Coach. Ms. Jecklin is a graduate of the Leading Educators program and an AP English mentor for AdvanceNOLA. She is completing her final coursework for her master's degree in education from National-Louis University this year.
Chana Benenson, Co-Principal for School Culture
Ms. Benenson manages non-academic programming and administration, setting behavior and collaboration expectations and working with the larger community. She has traveled, studied and worked all over the world and came to New orleans with Teach for America in 2004. She began at Sci High by teaching various levels of Spanish and French and held a variety of leadership positions, including Foreign Language Department Head, Instructional Coach, School Culture Coordinator, Senior Advisor and School Behavior Dean. She has worked with Tulane's Upward Bound, The New Teacher Project, Teach NOLA, The School Leadership Center and Leading Educators. She will complete her master's degree from Columbia University Teachers College in July 2013.
