School Founder MacPhee Named Interim Leader

Jan 4, 2011

Dear Colleague:

The attached letter from The Advocates explains a significant change in scholastic leadership at the New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School (Sci High). Barbara MacPhee, the founding principal of Sci High’s predecessor, has replaced Alnita Porea as school leader. Barbara’s stature, credibility, experience, and love for the Sci High students make her the right person to head the school while a search for a permanent leader progresses, and we express our deep gratitude to her.

Barbara has come out of retirement to lead the school as plans are being made to integrate Sci High into the BioScience District. She will play a key role in defining the distinction of our school and its “fit” in the BioSciences District.  While the Advocates search for a school leader, Barbara will be actively engaged in shaping and implementing the school’s mission and vision –  she is in no sense a placeholder.

The Foundation executive committee is fully committed to being appropriately engaged in the search process.  We will do everything in our power to ensure the likelihood of its success.
