Graduating Senior Receives Scholarship to Study Abroad in India!
Apr 30, 2014
Students at Sci High are active not only here in New Orleans, but also abroad. For the past four summers, our students have travelled to Panama, Peru, and France, with another group of students travelling to Jordan this summer. It is our great pleasure to announce that CJ Hauser, Class of 2014, will spend next year learning Hindi in Indore, India as a recipient of the 2014-15 NSLI for Youth Scholarship! This program, run through the American Councils for International Education, is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Department of State. Starting in July, CJ will live in Indore, taking daily language lessons, staying with a home family, and studying Indian culture and history at The Daly College. “It’s incredible! Ms. French told me about it the day she found out [about the program]. When I got the email, ‘Congratulations Mr. Hauser…’ my hands started shaking and I was jumping up and down. I told all my teachers, anybody I could find. I think I was chosen because I have a passion for the subject, experience travelling, I’m conversationally fluent in Spanish and teaching myself German. Panama [a volunteer trip with Sci High last summer] probably made the most significant difference in my Spanish; the two days with native speakers made more of a difference than two years of studying. I see a place like India is a place like no other …with their own history despite colonization, with a unique identity.”
Congratulations, Mr. Hauser and Ms. French, on this life-changing opportunity.
“Learning languages and traveling are my two passions.”
