Eight Sci High Students Travel to Panama
Jun 25, 2013
This summer 8 Sci High students traveled abroad to Panama in Central America on a cultural and linguistic immersion trip. Their 10 days in country included a visit to the Panama Canal, a jungle hike on Barro Colorado - a Smithsonian biodiversity research center, home stays in a rural village of only 100 people (!), and two days’ worth of classroom inclusion and sharing at Alfredo Cantón - a public high school in San Miguelito, just outside of Panama City. Each and every student rose to the occasion, testing their Spanish skills with aplomb, eating any strange thing set in front of them and haggling like veterans in the city's markets. Monkeys were spotted in the jungle and a memorable dance party with new friends in the small community punctuated a memorable and poignant trip.
