AP Testing at a Record High
May 7, 2013
Testing season is in full swing as May charges towards the school year finish line. Students are quiet and focused on their End of Course testing here, alongside all other New Orleans public schools. But for 151 sophomores, juniors and seniors at Sci High (over a third of the school) these are no average tests. Monday marked the beginning of Advance Placement exams, where students test to earn college credit on national exams. And while our students have received college-credit level scores in all eight courses available*, research shows that the high rigor of AP classes proves beneficial to students regardless of their scores. These 151 students will tackle a whopping 259 tests (67 taking two or more AP exams) in the next two weeks. They highlight yet again Sci High’s foundational belief that all students, when supported, can succeed. Any student at Sci High can self-select into an AP course.
