Sci High Achieves Best AP Scores in the City

Jul 12, 2012

The New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School (Sci High) has been developing an open-enrollment AP program for the past 3 years.  The philosophy of the program is rooted in providing rigorous academic opportunities to any student who chooses to participate, and this year has seen an incredible growth (over 288%!) in student performance.

Significant Findings for 2012 AP Testing at SciHigh

  • Sci High students earned qualifying scores in 31 AP tests, which is an over 288% increase from the previous year, and over a 933% increase over the year the program began.

  • Sci High students earned qualifying scores (3 or better) in every subject area that a test was given (of 8 subjects).

  • Sci High saw the first scores of 4 and 5 in any subject since the origin of the Open-Enrollment AP Program.  Across Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, English Language, English Literature, US History, and Statistics, 9 students earned 13 AP scores of 4 or 5 (meaning a few students earned multiple 4s and/or 5s.)

  • Sci High had the first qualifying scores in math and science (Chemistry, Calculus AB, Biology, and Statistics) since the origin of the open-enrollment AP program.  Among these four subjects, 8 students earned 10 qualifying scores.

  • Sci High students earned 75% of all the passing scores in the AdvanceNOLA consortium. AdvanceNOLA funds open-enrollment AP programs at open-enrollment high schools for math, science, and English AP courses.  SciHigh had 27 passing scores in English, Math, or Science; Karr had 4 passing scores in the same subject areas; Walker had 3 passing scores in the same subject areas; Sci Academy had 2 passing scores in the same subject areas.

Congratulations so Sci High students on their success!
